Two New Zoom Meetings from South Africa

03/03/2025

In the last month two new developments have taken place in South Africa which promise more Zoom Meetings for interested parties internationally. In the first instance, André du Plessis RDPSA and PFSA COO has started a South African Postcard ‘group’; in the second Adél Bulpitt has formed ‘Philately South Africa’, subtitled ‘Stamping with Adél’.

New Postcard Group Zoom Meeting

An online South African Deltiological (the collection and study of postcards) study group is long overdue. SA has provided philatelists and postal and social historians with a fascinating trove of postcards that document the historic movement of people, the development of the country and its industrialisation during the Mineral Revolution, as well as its flipside, the stunning natural beauty so beloved by tourists and travellers.

Philatelic displays are often improved by the inclusion of postcards that place letters with postmarks of towns and places within a visual social history context. Bob Hill and Rob and Lyn Lester have been doing this for several years through their regular columns in The Springbok. André’s intiative in starting a postcard group on a Zoom platform is a welcome development that promises to broaden the scope of our hobby.

The first meeting of the new postcard society has already taken place. Future meetings will take place on the last Tuesday of the month via Zoom. |If you are interested, the next meeting will be on Tuesday 25th March 2025. If you wish to attend, please contact:

Philately South Africa: ‘Stamping with Adél’.

Adél Bulpit will give her all for philately. She hopes to bring a fresh vision and her boundless enery to what has traditionally been a hobby run by old men. If you enjoy a woman’s touch and are not averse to Adél taking a lead in philatelic activities you will find that she is a relentless female philatelic warrior who will extend our hobby’s lease on life.

Many will already have sat in on a Zoom Meeting organised by Adél. If you want to attend one of her new Zoom meetings, please contact her:

Let Adél know if you want to be the guest speaker at one of the Happy Hour meetings
