The Springbok – Our Society Journal

First published in 1953, the Springbok is the quarterly journal of SACS.

The logo of the first Springbok magazine was an adapted version of the ½d green and black Springbok definitive stamp first seen in the 1926 London Pictorials. We have incorporated this original logo into our new website.

Some interesting information about the early years of The Springbok can be found on the Otto Peetoom Legacy Website. This includes the first Editorial by Eric Sherwood in 1953; a list of past Editors up to 2017; how the cover has changed over time; and a short piece on ‘Journal Production, Colour, Quality etc.’.

The Otto Peetoom Legacy Website also includes a complete list of The Springbok contents between 1953 and 2003.

Contributions to The Springbok in the form of letters, notes, reports of related activities, articles, etc. are always welcomed by the Editor. Your subject can be anything associated with southern Africa’s mail and postal services, e.g. philately (stamps), postal history (covers), postcards, postmarks and related ephemera.

If you would like to contribute, please contact us.
