What’s Inside The Springbok – October 2025
October’s edition of the Springbok contains a varied and interesting series of articles and photographs which are bound to be of interest to many members. The magazine starts with a detailed report, including many images, of the successful one day meeting at Letchworth on Saturday 30 August. Bob Hill details all the displays, as well as the Letchworth 1-2-3 cup which was won by Chris Oliver.
Tony Howgrave Graham gives advance notice of ‘The Sherwood‘ sale, planned for November, which is an opportunity for members to acquire, through Auction 64, ‘superb material’ from the Eric Sherwood collection. Eric was one of the founding members of the Society and a much-trusted collector of South African Philately. The results of Auction 63 which took place in late September and early October are published, along with Subscription rates for the Society for 2026. Remember subscriptions are due on 1 January 2026 and should be sent to the Membership Secretary as noted.
Part 3 of Tony Howgrave-Graham’s Revenue article relates to the 1931 to 1937 Second Kings Head series with many photographs and a detailed write up. He also includes a fascinating article in his South West Africa Corner.
Rob & Lyn Lester continue their Union Cinderella articles with a further five commercial labels from their collection, as well as further early post cards of South African Post Offices.
Nick Arrow asks for help with an airmail cover and Chris Oliver provides an insight into South African Mail from Korea during the Korean War.
